Polish First lady meets female ambassadors and ambassadors' spouses

2014 will be a special year for Poland as it will mark the 10th anniversary of joining the EU and the 25th anniversary of first partially free elections, Poland's First Lady said during a meeting with female ambassadors and spouses of ambassadors accredited to Poland.

Present at the meeting at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday evening were a few dozen woman ambassadors and wives of ambassadors working in Poland.

"2014 will be very special for Poland because of two significant anniversaries observed this year," Anna Komorowska said speaking about the 10th anniversary of Poland's joining the EU and the 25th anniversary of the June 4, 1989 free parliamentary elections.

"On that day Poles decided that their homeland was to change from a communist one into a free and democratic country," Komorowska said.

The First Lady stressed that Poland managed to defeat communism in a peaceful way. "It seems unbelievable but such thing happened," Anna Komorowska said and stressed that the June 4 elections changed not only Poland. "The Berlin Wall fell a few months later," she stressed.

The Polish First Lady wished all her guests a happy New Year and invited them to participate in events marking the two anniversaries.

Ambassador of Peru to Poland Martha Isabel Chavarri Dupuy thanked Anna Komorowska on behalf of all the guests and recalled that twenty five years of Poland's freedom brought positive changes both to Poland and the entire world. (PAP)
