Sekretarz stanu USA John Kerry przybył w piątek do Hawany na uroczystość wciągnięcia flagi Stanów Zjednoczonych w ambasadzie USA na Kubie, symbolizującą wznowienie stosunków dyplomatycznych między obu krajami.
Kerry jest pierwszym od 70 lat szefem dyplomacji amerykańskiej składającym wizytę na Kubie. Telewizja kubańska na żywo transmitowała jego przylot na hawańskie lotnisko Jose Marti.
Przed gmachem ambasady USA w Hawanie zebrał się tłum, oczekując na Kerry'ego i wciągnięcie flagi USA.
Po uroczystości szef dyplomacji USA ma się spotkać z ministrem spraw zagranicznych Kuby, przywódcą tamtejszego Kościoła katolickiego, a także, osobno, z grupą kubańskich dysydentów.
Porozumienie o przywróceniu pełnych relacji weszło w życie o północy z 19 na 20 lipca w Waszyngtonie i Hawanie.
USA zerwały stosunki dyplomatyczne z Kubą za prezydentury Dwighta Eisenhowera w 1961 roku w odpowiedzi na wzrost napięć z rewolucyjnym rządem Fidela Castro. Wprowadzone przez Eisenhowera embargo na relacje z Kubą, w tym handlowe, było od tego czasu wielokrotnie zaostrzane przez Kongres USA.(PAP)

North Korea introduces New Pyongyang Time
