Nowe zamieszki w Baltimore po śmierci Afroamerykanina (ZOBACZ ZDJĘCIA)

Siedmiu policjantów, w tym jeden ciężko, zostało w poniedziałek rannych podczas nowych zamieszek na ulicach Baltimore po pogrzebie Afroamerykanina, który zmarł po zatrzymaniu przez policję.

W pogrzebie wzięło udział ponad 2500 osób, później wzburzony tłum wyległ na ulice. Doszło do starć z policją, która użyła gazu łzawiącego usiłując rozproszyć demonstrantów. Demonstranci oskarżali policję o spowodowanie śmierci 25-letniego Freddiego Gray'a.

Jak poinformował rzecznik policji w Baltimore Eric Kowalczyk, funkcjonariusze zostali obrzuceni cegłami i kamieniami. Podpalono też kilka radiowozów policyjnych. Doszło też do aktów wandalizmu i rabowania sklepów.

12 kwietnia Gray doznał uszkodzenia rdzenia kręgowego, gdy po aresztowaniu wepchnięto go do policyjnej furgonetki. Tydzień później mężczyzna zmarł w szpitalu. Władze wszczęły śledztwo w tej sprawie. Sześciu policjantów, którzy uczestniczyli w aresztowaniu Gray'a, zawieszono.

Śmierć Gray'a podsyciła na nowo oburzenie znacznej części opinii publicznej w USA ujawnianymi co pewien czas przez media przypadkach brutalnego traktowania przez policję Afroamerykanów. (PAP)
