Poland, Switzerland sign accord on visa representation

Swiss President Didier Burkhalter, who also performs the function of foreign minister, and Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski on Monday signed an agreement on mutual representation in the process of visa application processing and visa issuance.

It is Poland's eighth visa representation agreement but the first such deal signed with a non-EU country which at the same time is a party to the Schengen treaty, the Polish Foreign Ministry said in a statement sent to PAP.

Didier Burkhalter and Radoslaw Sikorski stressed that the agreement would bolster cooperation between Polish and Swiss consular services, according to the statement.

The Monday talks focused on political and economic bilateral relations, military cooperation and the future of the Polish museum in Rapperswil.

The two officials also discussed international issues, including collaboration within the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), currently headed by Switzerland, the current situation in Syria and Iran, cooperation within the development policy and Switzerland-EU relations, according to the press release.

Radoslaw Sikorski was reported to have said that the "Polish-Swiss relations are developing very well as trade and mutual investments are growing."

Additionally, Minister Sikorski presented Poland's assessment of the outcomes of the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius in November last year as well as Poland's view of the current situation in Ukraine, the ministry reported. (PAP)
