Polish President Duda commences US visit

Polish President Andrzej Duda has kicked off his first official visit to the US this weekend, ahead of the UN General Assembly in New York on Monday.

The Polish head of state visited Ground Zero – the site of the World Trade Center – and paid tribute to the victims of the 11 September 2001 attack on the site.

This was the first destination of President Duda in the US on his first official visit to the country since being sworn into office. On Sunday he is expected to visit New York’s Greenpoint district, which is home to the second largest Polish community in the US after Chicago.

There, President Duda will take part in a Mass celebrated at the St. Stanislaus Kostka parish and will later talk with members of the Polish-American community.

In the afternoon, the President will meet with United Nations General Secretary Ban Ki Mun at the UN headquarters. On Monday morning local time, the president will speak at the General Debate of the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly.

He will be the fifth speaker of the day, following a speech by Ban Ki-Moon, the President of the General assembly, Mogens Lykketoft, the President of Brazil Dilma Rousseff, and US President Barack Obama.
