President Komorowski: "it was a Polish Wimbledon"

Poland's president has awarded Agnieszka Radwanska, Jerzy Janowicz and Lukasz Kubot state honours for their success at the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships.

“It was a Polish Wimbledon,” Bronislaw Komorowski said on Tuesday at the Belweder Palace where Radwanska, women's semi finalist, was awarded the Gold Cross of Merit, with Kubot and Janowicz receiving silver crosses for reaching the quarter and semi finals respectively. “It is a great privilege for a president to be able to thank you, not only on behalf of myself, but on behalf of the whole nation. Thank you for the moments of emotion, hope and pride,” President Komorowski said.

Twenty-two year old Jerzy Janowicz lost in his first ever semi final grand slam to the eventual winner in the Wimbledon men's singles, Andy Murray, after beating his fellow Pole, Lukasz Kubot in the quarter finals. Agnieszka Radwanska lost in the last four to Germany's Sabine Lisicki, the losing finalist in the women's singles.
