Poland sees drop in illegal immigrants

A report indicates that the number of foreign workers living illegally in Poland dropped by 23 percent in 2012.  Between 2010, Poland's National Labour Inspectorate conducted approximately 6300 checks on firms with a large turnover of foreign employees.

Of the checks carried out in 2012, only 59 foreigners were found to be illegal immigrants.

Meanwhile, the National Labour Inspectorate also found less irregularities concerning Russian, Georgian, Ukrainian, Belarusian and Moldovan citizens, who can work in Poland for six months without a permit, provided employees submit forms concerning intent to hire to the local labour office.

Last year, 86 cases were uncovered of employees who had failed to submit the correct documentation for workers of the aforementioned nationalities, whereas in 2011, the number was 125.
