O’Hare Will Have Largest Number of Italian Destinations Ever in 2024; Route Signals AA's Continued Commitment to Growth in Chicago Market
American Airlines will provide daily service from O’Hare International Airport to Marco Polo Airport (VCE) in the iconic Italian city of Venice starting in the summer of 2024, the airline and the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) announced today.
"On behalf of Mayor Brandon Johnson, I thank our partners at American Airlines for their ongoing commitment to O’Hare International Airport,” said CDA Commissioner Jamie L. Rhee. “American continues to build back an extraordinary portfolio of air service options at our airport, including this new service, which will provide Chicagoans with fast connections to one of the most historic cities on the planet.”
The airline will operate the daily flight aboard a Boeing 787 Dreamliner starting Wednesday, June 5, and continue the service through Saturday, Oct. 26. American Airlines last operated the service for a single summer season in 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Tickets go on sale Sunday at aa.com and the airline’s mobile app.
“As this summer winds down, American Airlines is gearing up to bring back service between Chicago O’Hare International Airport and Venice Marco Polo Airport next summer,” said Brian Znotins, American’s Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning. “Joining our network of six European destinations, connecting the Windy City to the City of Water opens up more ways for Chicagoans to explore the world, while facilitating expanded one-stop access from across the Midwest to Europe next summer.”
With service to both Rome and Milan expected to continue next summer, O’Hare International Airport will provide direct service to three Italian cities for the first time ever. Venice will become American’s second Italian destination from O’Hare next summer, along with returning summer seasonal service to Rome. United Airlines provides seasonal summer service to Rome and Milan.
O’Hare is only the fifth American airport to offer direct service to Venice, and the only airport not located on the eastern seaboard to do so.
