Violent storms swept across Poland during the weekend, damaging roofs, delaying trains and flooding buildings.
Firefighters were called out 1,392 times on Sunday to deal with the aftermath of torrential rain, high winds and in some places hail caused by storms that passed through the country.
The majority of incidents were caused by strong winds, which toppled trees and damaged roofs, while heavy rain flooded buildings and streets.
Trains were delayed in central Poland for several hours after a storm caused a power outage on a main line.
Take-offs and landings were stopped at Warsaw’s Chopin Airport for about 30 minutes as a storm raged. The older part of the terminal suffered flooding. Air traffic was restored when the weather improved.
The storms also cut power lines in south-eastern Poland, with an estimated 4,000 consumers left without electricity on Sunday night, while in north-eastern Poland, another 300 were waiting for their power to be restored.(mol/pk)
