Polish travel agents cancel Tunisia holidays

The TUI and Itaka travel agencies in Poland have cancelled their forthcoming flights to Tunisia following Friday’s terrorist attacks at two hotels in Sousse.

The Foreign Ministry has confirmed that no Poles were killed in Friday’s terrorist attacks in the seaside resort of Sousse in Tunisia, which saw the death of 27 people.

TUI amd Itaka – the latter Poland’s largest travel agent – have announced that their clients were not involved in the attacks, but have said that they will be bringing back the tourists in the coming days.

Similar statements were made by rival agents Neckermann and Rainbow Tours.

“Trips to Tunisia are currently closed. Those who have purchased trips in the near future, will be offered other destinations,” Marek Andryszak, head of the TUI agency, told broadcaster TVN.

He added that tourists currently in Tunisia will be evacuated from the country in the near future.

The head of Itaka said that 500 company clients were currently in the country, despite a recent attack in Tunisia which saw the deaths of three Polish nationals at the Bardo national museum.

The Polish Foreign Ministry reiterated on Friday that Tunisia is still on a travel blacklist and Poles are strongly recommended not to holiday in the country.

Meanwhile, the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, has said: “Let me express our condolences and solidarity to France, Kuwait and Tunisia which have been the victims of savage terrorist attacks.” (rg)
