Marriages increasing in Poland

In 2014, 188,000 couples got married in Poland, over 7,000 more than in the previous year. Poland’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) has released data related to love and marriages on St. Valentine’s day, 14 February.

The growth in marriages was a bucking of the trend, GUS observes, following five years of decline.

However, the statistics authority noted, over the last few years, the average age of both the brides and grooms has gradually increased.

“In 2013, the median age of marriages contracted by men was approximately 29,” the report read, adding that this was four years more than the average in the middle of the 1990s.

Females got married at an average age of 27, compared with less than 23 around two-and-a-half decades ago.
