A poll concerning the forthcoming 2015 presidential election has given current head of state Bronislaw Komorowski an increased lead.
According to the poll conducted by Millward Brown, President Komorowski would garner 65 percent of the vote if an election was held on Sunday 18 January (the actual election is expected to be held in mid-May). In December, a poll by TNS Polska had given Komorowski 56 percent backing.
Meanwhile, MEP Andrzej Duda, candidate for conservative opposition party Law and Justice, would take 21 percent of the vote (up 5 percent on TNS Polska).
Third place in the poll was taken by Dr Magdalena Ogorek (6 percent) of the Democratic Left Alliance. A new face in politics, her candidature was declared on 9 January, and she has already dislodged several rivals.
Janusz Korwin-Mikke, freshly ousted from fringe party the Congress of the New Right, would only garner 3 percent as candidate of a newly formed grouping.
Meanwhile, liberal candidate Janusz Palikot of the Your Movement party appears to be falling in popularity. He would win just 1 percent of the vote, down 1 percent from the December TNS poll.
Komorowski is the only one of the aforementioned figures who has yet to officially announce his candidacy, although there has been no suggestion that he will not run.
