Christmas Eve 2014 proved “one of the most tragic days in memory”, the Polish fire department said.
The fire department recorded over 300 fires all over the country on the most important festive night in Poland, the Polish Radio reports.
Nine people died and 15 were injured in fires.
The lion’s share of the fires can be blamed on malfunctions of home appliances, such as power, gas and heating installations, a spokesperson for the fire department said.
Improperly installed lighting for Christmas trees and other decoration adds to fire toll over the holiday season, the spokesperson said.
Christmas Eve is probably the most important festive occasion in most Polish homes.
