Essay Contest for Students and Young Talent Award Sponsored by CEP


The Council of Educators in Polonia (CEP), the oldest educational non-profit organization in Illinois, funded in 1930, invites students to participate in the Essay and Young Talent Contests. The winners will receive their awards during the Saint Joseph Day celebration. It will take place at the Lone Tree Inn (7730 N. Milwaukee Ave., Niles IL) on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 6 pm.

Students in Grades 7-8

This year topic:
“Tadeusz Kosciuszko - Hero of Two Nations. Evaluate his merits in his battle for freedom in Poland and United States of America.”

All essays will be judged on originality, content and structure. Essays may be written in Polish or English language. All essays must be typed, double spaced, using 12 point font printed only on one side of each page. The essays should be no longer than 2 pages.

The name of each applicant must NOT appear on the essay. The author should be identified on the title page by a pen name other than the author’s legal name.

The essay should have a sealed envelope stapled to it containing a 3” x 5” card with the following information: pen name, legal name, grade, home address, phone number, email address and the name of school and the name of teacher, principal and phone number.

The winners will receive their awards during the Saint Joseph Day celebration. It will take place at the Lone Tree Inn (7730 N. Milwaukee Ave., Niles IL) on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 6 pm.

The deadline for all essays is March 10, 2017.

Basic Requirements

1. Applicants must submit an approximately 1000 words essay in English or Polish on the subject:
“Tadeusz Kosciuszko - Hero of Two Nations. Evaluate his merits in his battle for freedom in Poland and United States of America.”

2. The essay must be typed and double spaced on 8.5” x 11” white paper, using a 12-point font.
Art or graphic materials should not be included.

3. The name of each applicant must NOT appear on the essay. The author should be identified
on the title page by a pen name other than the author’s legal name.

6. Deadline: March 10, 2017.

7. Essays become the property of the Council of Educators in Polonia and will not be returned.
The winning essays may be published in local newspapers and Polish/Polish American
publications.
8. Previous winners may not participate.

Fifteenth Annual Young Talent Award

The Council of Educators in Polonia is celebrating Pulaski Day by sponsoring the
Fifteenth Annual Young Talent Award. We are looking for students who possess talent either in the area of Fine Arts or Performing Arts. Since every teacher knows his or her students best, the Council is asking teachers to recommend students who have outstanding talents in the areas of Fine Arts or Performing Arts.

The Award Ceremony will take place at the Council’s St. Joseph Day dinner on March 18, 2017 at 6 p.m. The celebration will be held at Lone Tree Inn at 7730 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Niles, Illinois.

The Council’s criteria for the contest consists of the following:
Teachers must submit in writing a short recommendation indicating why the student(s) should receive this award.
Teachers must write the student’s name, address, phone number, grade level, teacher’s name and school on the recommendation.
Teachers must submit in writing information about the student’s talents and achievements
Teachers must submit a video (DVD or other audiovisual attachments i.e ipad/iphone recordings), CD, or other audio recordings, or photographs (visual art work) done by the student(s)

All entries are due by Friday, March 10, 2017.
