US president to take part in presentation of Solidarity Award - Sikorski

US President Barack Obama will take part in a ceremony of presenting the Solidarity Award in Warsaw on June 3, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has announced. 




"I have a special satisfaction that the award, which has been proposed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will be presented by President (Bronislaw Komorowski) in the presence of the US president and other very important foreign guests. This will be a very good inauguration of our great award for promoting democratic values," Sikorski told Polish public television.

The award will be presented on June 3. On the following day (June 4), according to the presidential chancellery, addition to meetings of heads of state, planned is an official ceremony at Warsaw's Castle Square to be attended by a number of European leaders. Scheduled is also a special meeting of the National Assembly, a joint meeting of both chambers of Polish parliament.

Worth a total of EUR 1 million, the award will consist of EUR 250,000 for the recipient, EUR 700,000 to support Polish development aid programmes chosen by the recipient and EUR 50,000 to finance the recipient's study tour of Poland. (PAP)
