Street parties were held in cities across Poland on Thursday night, with revelers bringing in the new year.
In Warsaw, parties gathered by the National Stadium for the third year in a row, where bands such as The Kooks let rip on a specially erected stage.
Red and white fireworks representing the colors of the Polish flag were let off during a 12-minute display that began at midnight.
Kraków in southern Poland once again proved to be a magnet for both Poles and foreigners alike.
Thousands thronged to the Main Market Square, where performers included Afromental and Maciej Malenczuk.
Meanwhile, city authorities in Wrocław, south west Poland, estimate that about 200,000 people attended festivities on the city's Market Square. 3-D technology was used on the stage while bands provided sonic celebration.
The southern city of Katowice, which was made a UNESCO City of Music last month, likewise hosted a major open-air concert, with artists including rockers Wilki and folk fusion favorites Golec uOrkiestra. (nh)
