New York Polonia celebrates bilingualism

Members of New York City's Polonia community have set up a new initiative to celebrate bilingualism, aimed at promoting the Polish language among children of America’s Polonia.

The initiative aims to promote the Polish language among American children living in the Polonia diaspora.
"At home we speak Polish," is the slogan of the campaign which is being carried out by the Polish community portal Good Polish School.
As the organisers say, these kids are the future best ambassadors for Poland.
There are an estimated 10 million Polish Americans, representing about 3.2 percent of the US population.
In 2000, 667,414 Americans over five years old reported Polish as the language spoken at home, which is about 1.4 percent of the census groups who speak a language other than English or 0.25 percent of the US population. (jh/di)
