Podpisując umowę o stowarzyszeniu z UE od Ukrainy wymaga się przeprowadzenia reform politycznych i włączenia ukraińskich kompani do rynkowej konkurencji, co w dłuższej perspektywie przyspieszyłoby proces demokratyzacji i poprawiło klimat dla inwestycji zagranicznych w tym kraju. Krytycy zarzucają obecnym władzom ukraińskim brak przywództwa przy wyborze wyraźnej i dalekosiężnej drogi, co w konsekwencji skieruje Ukrainę w stronę Unii Celnej z Rosją.

Rosja bezwzględnie dąży do utrzymania roli globalnego supermocarstwa. Tymczasem Polska, zachodni sąsiad Ukrainy od czasu upadku bloku sowieckiego przekierowała swój handel ze wschodu na zachód i radzi sobie z konkurencją zachodnich przedsiębiorców, stając się europejskim mocarstwem.
Ukraina ze względu na swe położenie geograficzne, bogactwa naturalne, obszar, sieć komunikacyjną i zasoby ludzkie posiada ogromny potencjał, by stać się ważnym partnerem krajów europejskich.
Podczas gdy Europa jednoczy się pod flagą Unii Europejskiej, a naród ukraiński protestuje na ulicach swych miast, rząd tego kraju odwraca się na wschód powalając na powrót do statusu państwa satelickiego. Ukraińcy zasługują na lepszą przyszłość wspólnie z Zachodem, a my solidaryzujemy się z ich nadziejami.

Ukraine: a turning point
Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich’s decision not to sign an association agreement with the European Union has led to protests throughout the country. The protesters want a future securely tied to the rest of Europe for their homeland. So demonstrations, called a Second Orange Revolution, continue in the streets of Kiev.
By joining the European Union Ukraine would be required to undergo political reform, expose Ukrainian companies to tough competition which in the long run would accelerate the democratic process and improve the economic investment climate. Critics of the current Ukrainian government claim it lacks leadership to choose the bold and farsighted course and will place Ukraine in obsolescence with the Russian Customs Union.
Russia has been relentless in its goal of being respected and feared as a great global superpower. While Poland, Ukraine’s western neighboring state since the collapse of the Soviet bloc, has reoriented its trade from East to West and coped with competition from the European businesses to become a European power.
Ukraine has great potential because of its geographic location, resources, size, transportation networks, and human resources to become a significant partner in European affairs.
As the rest of Europe unites under the European Union and the Ukrainian people march in the streets of their cities, its governmental leaders seem to turn East and back to a satellite status. The Ukrainian people deserve a prosperous future with the West and we stand in solidarity with their hopes.
